CPA exam day tips

CPA exam day tips for staying calm and useful under pressure.

Exam day is not the time to become a new student. It is the time to execute a simple plan: arrive prepared, manage time, read carefully, and recover quickly from hard questions.

The day before

Do a light final review and stop early enough to sleep. Review formulas, frameworks, and common mistakes, but avoid turning the final night into a marathon.

For multiple-choice questions

Read the last sentence of the stem carefully. Many CPA questions turn on what is being asked: most likely, least likely, except, before year-end, or after report date.

For simulations

Start by understanding the task before reading every exhibit. Determine what the question wants, then inspect the exhibits that answer that requirement.

If you panic

Use a reset: feet on floor, one slow breath, reread the call of the question, and choose the next useful action. You do not need to feel calm to earn points.
