CPA study strategy

How to study for the CPA exam without wasting your best hours.

The CPA exam rewards consistency more than cramming. A strong plan combines learning, question practice, review, and recovery so you can keep going for months without burning out.

Start with the section, not the calendar

Before choosing an exam date, understand the section you are studying. FAR usually requires the largest content build. AUD rewards careful wording and evidence logic. REG depends heavily on tax rules.

Use a four-part weekly loop

Learn the topic, practice targeted MCQs, review every miss, then retest weak topics later in the week. That loop matters more than long passive study sessions.

Do questions before you feel ready

Questions reveal what the exam actually asks. Even wrong answers teach you how topics are tested and which words change the answer.

Protect review time

If you answer 40 questions and never revisit the wrong ones, you are collecting mistakes instead of fixing them. Bookmark weak questions and return to them.
